468 Ways To Show Emotion

'468 Ways to Show Emotion' is a project exploring how type can represent human emotion. This led to the creation of 'Emotive Sans', a typeface representing the extremities of happiness and sadness. This typeface helps bring humanisation and emotional resonance to digital type design.

Development

Initial letterforms captured in Blender
Letterforms were created in blender; using various gravity and physics tools to inflate and deflate the base typeface 'Helvetica'. Capturing the various stages of the type inflating and deflating allowed to create different weights/extremities within my typeface.

In the final presentation of this project I brought the typeface to life using Adobe Firefly. Using my letterforms as a structure I added a balloon like effect to emphasise the inflation/deflation and create an eye-catching visual.

One of the applications of this project was a conceptual charity collaboration. The representation of the extremities of human emotion through this typeface could help support people with autism.
